Wilkes Communications turns 65!
RiverStreet Networks is one part of the Wilkes Communications brand. Wilkes Communications was first introduced to the world as Wilkes Telephone Company. In 1949, a group of local Wilkes County citizens petitioned to Central Telephone Company for phone service. They had no idea what would become of their efforts.
In recent years we rebranded ourselves as Wilkes Communications, a broadband company. RiverStreet Networks, a subsidiary of Wilkes Communications caters to our customers outside of the Wilkes County service area, and RiverStreet Productions is our full video production studio. As a family of businesses, the services we provide may have grown and changed for the better, but the way we do business has not. We are owned by our members and are fully committed to providing the best services possible.
Being a part of the community is more than just providing service to the people who live here. Wilkes Communications, Inc. is committed to supporting the people and organizations that aim to make Wilkes County a strong place to live and work. Members of our staff serve on numerous local boards and committees. Our members also play a role in helping the community, through their contributions of over $31,000 that benefit the organizations that we support. Each year, Wilkes Communications holds a Food Drive and all of the food donated is given to local food banks. Also, Communities in Schools has an annual “Stuff the Bus” charity, and with the help of the collections from Wilkes Communications Inc., Communities in Schools are able to spread their resources further. During the holiday season, our charity does not stop. Each holiday season, a child’s Christmas Day is made brighter from donations to our Winter Toy Drive. We love to help the community in as many ways as possible, and because of our loyal members, we have the privilege of being a part of something so grand!
