Bedford, VA Groundbreaking

RiverStreet Networks, along with state and local officials across Virginia, are working together to make high-speed Internet a reality in Bedford County, VA. With the assistance of funding from Bedford County, the Connect America Fund (CAF), the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI), and the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), the network expansion supported by RiverStreet is expected to be completed over the next few years. Once fully complete, the Bedford FTTH project will provide over 3,000 homes and businesses with access to Internet speeds up to 1,000 Megabits per second, also known as 1 Gig.

The ground-breaking ceremony symbolizes the start of the fiber build work. Over the next few months, you will see construction crews working diligently to bring high-speed Internet to the doorsteps of residents in Bedford County. Residents and businesses in Bedford County are encouraged to pre-register their addresses here to receive further information about what to expect during the construction process and when their address is ready for service.

The Bedford FTTH project is part of RiverStreet’s multi-phased opportunity to bring fiber Internet to 15 additional counties located in South Central Virginia serving approximately 68,000 funded locations that lack broadband service. This will provide homes, businesses, and other anchor institutions with fiber optic broadband service. Fiber Internet is the fastest telecommunication technology available, capable of handling vast amounts of data. Fiber Internet is faster than typical technologies like DSL, wireless, or cable. Access and availability to a high-speed fiber network will further strengthen the livability and economic vitality of the area.
